Deeper and deeper! Below ground Russian Art!

Yes you guessed it! We traversed the Russian Metro both in Moscow and in St.Petersburg. Traffic congestion is horrible in both cities so for our guides it was much quicker for them to catch the underground in either city (even though a Mercedes and driver were available to both. Fares on the trains are very reasonable, affordable by everyone. And, there is no crowd pushing and all undesirables with a particular odor who may have chosen to sleep on the train are systematically removed on a regular basis. To Where? I wasn't told nor did want to ask. You'll see that all platforms are kept meticulously clean and so are the modern trains.

St. Petersburg underground is the deepest in the world. Because of its alluvial plain underneath extremely long supports had to be dropped into the base to be able to create the support structure. One station per year is added because of the structural problems.

Sportsmen and women featured strongly as did the family and workers of all kinds. Thanks to all the men and women who toil daily to keep the Mighty Russia functioning are displayed at most stations. Perhaps the ugly unkept ones were not shown to us, of course anything is possible.
